Art Crossing Gift 4 - Quilled Wolverine by Clarobell Art Crossing Gift 4 - Quilled Wolverine by Clarobell
This is a gift I made as part of the exchange group :iconartcrossing:

My giftee this time was :iconchaoticskye: and she said she liked retro x-men - one of which being wolverine. I struggled to come up with an idea initially, but decided to try a new type of papercraft in the form of quilling, which is spiralling paper and then squeezing it into shapes to form patterns and pictures. My quilled wolverine isn't exactly what you'd call traditional, but I think he came out okay in the end! The spirals give a pretty neat effect :D

He's mounted on furry black paper (I though this textured paper would hold the glue better) and surrounded by blue glitter vinyl. It has acrylic blue and yellow stars in the black background and to finish it off I rubbed blue glitter paper against he black to give it a sparkly look.

All in all, a very fun project!!

Thank you!! It's not what you'd consider traditional quilling (most often people will make flowers or animals - google it and you'll see what I mean) but the effect came out pretty cool. You should give it a go! It's quite easy to pick up when you know the basics!

I'm dubious about getting into another style of craft- I already do WAY to much. At the moment I'm avoiding papercrafts, because I know once I start, I'll be going down the cardmaking/scrapbooking road. Considering how much money I already spend at work (I work in a fabric/craft store) I really cant afford another hobby lol. Maybe one day when I win the lottery :D

Well, quilling an actually turn out rather cheap - you can pick up top quality quilling paper for 1 ($2?) and they honestly do go far! You just need to buy them online on ebay - the paper comes in packs of multicolours, so if the fancy takes you hop on over to ebay ;) don't forget the pva glue! I'd say it's a nice hobby to do whilst watching tv, as it doesn't require a lot of attention

See that would be rather cheap to get into, but then I'd probably put the designs onto cards for people, and then from there I'd invest in more cardmaking stuff, and from the it would be a downwards slope lol. between drawing, painting, crocheting, jewellery making, sewing, quilting, sculpting and home decor, I think I'm doing enough hehe.
